An introduction

For a very long time, this family has made shoes in Kanpur that left wearing other people's names.

Five thousand pairs a day, for houses in Spain, France and England. Our own tannery. Our own hands.

Blak Sand is the first time our name is on the shoe.

Leather we tan ourselves, nothing synthetic against the skin, seven millimetres underfoot and lambskin over it.

I would be glad if you would look, and gladder still if you would show it to the women in your family.
